Hotel at a Glance: Hotel Lincoln

If the Hotel Lincoln’s walls could talk, they’d have interesting stories to tell. This fully refurbished, 1920s-era hotel once housed a Prohibition-era speakeasy, and previous guests have ranged from Al Capone to playwright David Mamet. Today, the 4-star hotel has a luxe-preppy style; it features a chic restaurant and one of the city’s best rooftop bars. Situated 2 miles north of the Loop, the property overlooks Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood and its namesake zoo, with Lake Michigan just a couple blocks away.

  • Recently remodeled guest rooms feature original artwork, flat-screen TVs, and complimentary WiFi.
  • Award-winning bar: The J. Parker—named 1 of the Top 10 Rooftop Bars in the city by Chicago magazine and Chicagoist.com—offers 360-degree views from the hotel’s 13th floor. During the winter, indulge in a signature cocktail while stationed under a retractable glass roof. It’s like sitting in a snow globe.
  • Michelin-starred chef Paul Virant helms the onsite farm-to-table restaurant, Perennial Virant.
  • Start the day with a workout in the 24-hour fitness center or coffee in the in-house café.
  • Close to Chicago attractions: Hotel Lincoln is just a short L or bus ride from Wrigley Field, The Second City, and other iconic Windy City attractions.

Chicago’s Lincoln Park: Historic, Upscale Neighborhood Along Lake Michigan

A fashionable enclave 2 miles north of the Loop, Lincoln Park is known for its historic brownstones, quaint boutiques and cafés, and tree-lined boulevards. This Chicago neighborhood is perhaps most famous for its namesake park, which sprawls across 1,200 acres adjacent to Lake Michigan. Here, joggers and bicyclists frequent the paved pathway that runs parallel to the shoreline. When it’s warm, North Avenue Beach attracts a flurry of activity from swimmers, sunbathers, and beach-volleyball players.

Another must-see attraction is the Lincoln Park Zoo, which dates back to the 1870s, when park commissioners bought their first animal inhabitant, a bear cub, for $10. Today, the zoo—open daily and free to the public—houses more than 1,200 animals, including gorillas, bears, giraffes, tortoises, and pythons. Just outside the zoo’s entrance, the Lincoln Park Conservatory showcases exotic, tropical plants year-round.

Just around the corner, the Chicago History Museum houses thousands of artifacts, manuscripts, and photographs that detail the city’s colorful history. Check out the rotating lineup of exhibits such as Lincoln’s Chicago, which profiles the 16th president’s frequent visits to the Windy City.

During your visit, you’ll have access to at least one perk that was lacking in Lincoln’s day: the CTA. Chicago’s public transportation system is among the best in the nation; check out our CTA guide for helpful tips on navigating it like a local.

Should disclose what amenities are/are not available ❗️There are no fridges. There were also no microwaves. The valet was very fast, and helpful. No in hotel kitchen for room service or otherwise, also no in hotel "convince counter". Had to door dash all my food as I was traveling with a dog. No fridge made it impossible to save leftovers for lunch the next day. I had to call front desk to ask about simple things, as there was no brochure or information on any of the amenities of the hotel. Had to look up on the website where the ice machines were (odd floors). There is no one to help you move your luggage, so good luck if you have your dog with you. I stayed here specifically because it allowed pets. I received no door tag to indicate that I had a dog in my room, thankfully I was at a conference with him all day so he didn't scare the house keeping. House keeping only came one day of my 3 day stay, my trash from multiple food orders piled up fast. I also never received a "do not disturb" door tag. The carpet of my room was oddly damp, and had to have the window unit set to "dry", which made my room stay in the mid 50°s. Valet was very good. Very fast, helped move my luggage from car to cart and vice-versa. Biggest take away was that there are no fridges, or microwaves.

Chicago stays Staying at the hotel Lincoln was a wonderful experience. The staff was super nice and room was very clean and comfortable. We received complementary drinks at the rooftop bar and it was a nice way to start the evening with drinks and a view.

Bad stay, mold in room Not sure where to begin... Upon entering the room I was hit with what smelled like a very retched, moldy moisture smell which was not surprising since I discovered real quickly that the AC unit was so old that it was leaking water into the carpet under the unit. Upon inspection I realized the area around the unit was completely soaked in filthy water... This is COMPLETELY unacceptable as it is unhealthy to breathe in mold... Not good Taking a shower is also interesting! While water pressure is great - you will finish your shower with water up to your knees!! The bathtub is VERY slow.. Not good So like I said in a beginning- not sure where to start but it was one of my most unsatisfying stays long time! And yes I would appreciate somebody in management contacting me. As I stopped at the front desk and the front desk lady was nice, but this was a complete nightmare of a stay.
