Good Bye XYZ. Save for a better printer....

Well, I have had my Davinci Duo 2.0 since March. It has been a love/hate relationship.
Pros:
1) The printer looks good. The entirely enclosed printer has a clean look, albeit dated with an LCD display
2) Inexpensive: Although I didn't pay full retail for it at $675 and was able to pick it up for $450 on sale. Truthfully though, trying to cut corners will cost you in the end. See cons.
3) The ABS prints came out clean enough. It is a quite decent printer for ABS. It has struggled with the skull pencil holder for example, but otherwise almost all of my prints have came out average to above average.
Cons:
1) As others have stated, XYZ's software leaves much to be desired. Out of the box, you can print, but that is where it ends. The slicer is horrible, slow, and not configurable for other materials.
2) You are stuck with ABS/PLA. Trying to print in any other material is like pulling teeth. I have tried with Nylon 910 with limited success, PETG and had nothing but failure.
3) Proprietary Filament. At a cost of $70 for a dual filament resetter, coupled with Simplify 3d, My sales price on this printer was negated by the need for these two items.
4) The blown R271 within 3 months of owning the printer. No where in the instructions does it tell you to clean the nozzle with the printer turned off. After all it has to be hot to clean it, why would you turn a printer off to get it hot??? Only after I googled did I find out that we users learn this one the hard way. I had to solder the motherboard to fix this one, because XYZ won't cover this under warranty. (I will chock this one up to user error)
5) The cracked X-Axis Tensioner. I saw this and was astound that within 4 months this thing was hanging there ready to fall out. A 3d printed replacement and $4 worth of bearings fixed this. XYZ? C'mon really?
6) The small X-Axis belt just broke. Its a $3 part. XYZ specs it with a 5mm belt, but you can only buy a 4mm and 6mm belt online. Really XYZ, again....C'mon?
Suffice to say, I was not abusive on my printer. I've got about 500 hours on it and have printed about 8 rolls of filament. I put in an order for a Lulzbot Taz 5. I know... its a price difference of about $1000 dollars. Honestly, what good is a cheap printer that is locked down and has to be hacked to use to its full potential, and then has plastic bits falling apart. Its a good entry into 3d printing and I have learned a lot using it, but in the end I wish I had just opted for a better quality machine.
My advice to those wishing to purchase from XYZ.... spend a little more up front, you will be happier for it.
Good Bye XYZ

Prints through 2 different extruders nicely. Easy setup. Software is pretty basic but does the job of printing. USB connectivity only, but transfers file to printer pretty quickly. Manual is basic so you'll have figure some things out on your own or through YouTube. Glass bed a plus (use glue). Proprietary spool replacements (unless you hack one of the chips in the spool case). No real complaints though.

Spend the time to learn about 3D Printing. Calibration is an ABSOLUTE must. Print basic items to learn from your mistakes. You Tube and Thingiverse will help a lot. Buy the XYZ Printing filaments first, until you get the hang of things.

This printer is amazing. Let me first say, I have been into 3D printing for over 3 years, built a few from scratch, and would consider myself very proficient with them.
This 3D printer prints great, wonderful quality after some minor bed calibration, and is very sturdy. I do not like that it normally cannot use off-Brand filament, but it is easy to work around by installing repetier firmware. It is my first printer that I can let print for hours alone, without worrying if it'll mess up halfway. Also, having 2 extruders is awesome, opens up many possibilities. The slicing software is very easy to use, albeit a tad too simple for me. All in all, I'd say this stacks up to the $1000 printers out there.

I spent 1 hr trying to get the table balanced. Once I did it printed fine except for the first two or three layers melted causing the project to be ruined. Once you remove the item the table needs balanced, again. You'll spend so much time getting the table to level that your frustration hardly makes the fun worth it. God forbid the project doesn't come out perfect you may experience an aneurism

So much better than I expected

For the price I paid I was expecting a printer that would "do the job", but what I got was a 3D printer that has surprised me. There are complaints and star reduction concerning the fact that this printer uses cartridge based proprietary filament. However, this is never hidden and most purchased the printer knowing this limitation, yet lower the review because of it. Filament is 600 g instead of 1K, but is usually cheaper. Again never hidden. Benefit of the cart filament is...more consistency, internal storage, tested with your model of printer, easy install, I believe they also have moisture packs in them (saw on video, but have not confirmed).
Software is fine for beginning software, and has much of what someone needs to get started. It actually provides very good prints. You don't get a lot of options, but since this printer seems to be tweeted to work well without much need for this. I personally purchased Simplify3D because I do like the extra control and features though.
Also some complain about customer service, and I assume is probably as bad as stated, but I can't speak to this as I have not had to use them yet, and hope I never do. However, some are complaining that if there is an item covered under warranty they expect XYZ to pay for shipping to them. I admit that would be nice, but MOST companies are the exact same and require you, the customer, to pay for shipping to and the company pays for shipping back. Also, this is spelled out in their warranty information, and is never hidden from the consumer.
With that said, I have about 100 hours on it, and so far enjoying it. It provides great prints, at a great price. If I ever have to use customer service I might change my tune, but for now it is one of my all time favorite purchases. Make sure you read between the lines on the negative review. Some are justified, but others giving low review for things they should have known before the purchase with minimal research.
