Worlds need builders
How do you coax life back into a public space? How do you make it safe and inviting after a disaster for families and businesses? You give people the tools to tell you what the space needs and then you build it, block by block. The non-profit organisation Block by Block integrates the computer game Minecraft into public space planning, giving young people and communities the opportunity to reimagine public spaces.
Standing up for the most vulnerable
After receiving a Microsoft AI for Humanitarian Action grant in 2018, SEEDS worked with us to develop an AI model that forecasts who is most likely to be impacted by disasters, then deploys on-the-ground teams to meet with high-risk communities and find solutions to mitigate disaster. By 2030, they hope to reach 315 million of the most vulnerable people living in India's high-risk climate areas, helping them survive, adapt and thrive.
Creating a better way to connect
When Archer found that most text-to-speech software didn't address his non-speaking sister Della's needs, he built an app to help her better express her thoughts and feelings. His app FreeSpeech, which leverages many technologies including Microsoft Cognitive Services, is available to everyone as a free and open-source assistive communication app.
