I took this to Beijing last year when the pollution was world news not for cycling but just as the only effective filter I could find. I could see the dirt from the air on the white filter after just 2 days. I didn't get any asthma or COPD symptoms with this and I use it here in the UK when pollution levels are high. You have to get the right size to get a seal so no particulates can get in and get used to breathing through it and it keeps you warm too. It does unsettle people (epecially children) and make them stare. If you wear sunglasses aswell then you look really scary!

I have just received this mask and was thrilled to enjoy my new biking experience. It's difficult to say whether it does what it should do as the mask is difficult to fit on properly. It may be sizing issues - I would go for small but no store I checked had it in that size. Went for medium and it doesn't latch around my face/mouth, letting some unfiltered air in. Still, if it was not for tha air leaks, it would be difficult to breathe - it does obstruct breathing, whatever they claim, particularily in an intensive physical effort (like you experience in a city like Brussels).

Moreover, it is not practical when wear glasses - it tends to steam them beyond comfortable - I had to remove it a few times as I actually could not judge the traffic, etc. I am sure it is related to the incorrect fitting, with the air coming out not through the vents but top of the masks, right under the glasses. If I mount it a bit lower, it does wrap around my cheeks nicer and better but it obstructs breathing even more as it closes the nostrils. I ended up riding the whole journey with my mouth wide open, which I am sure, had not helped reducing the intake of polluted air.

It also does get wet inside, with droplets of water accumulating on the inside so it is a bit unpleasant. But well, if that helps to filter off the city's pollution, maybe a minor discomfort one can bear...

All masks take getting used to. You won’t find one that’s like breathing normally and doesn’t get a little wet after use, they don’t exist, but this one is what I expected. I’d recommend. Easy to wash the filter ( warm water only).

This is an overpriced ffp1 mask as defined by EN standards for protective equipment against hazards. You get better protection from disposable ffp3 masks and don't get locked in to buying expensive filters. Also difficult wearing with a helmet as the strap goes really low behind your head.

For the record, I would give it 0 stars if I could.

Lets start first with the fact that it appears to have as much ability in blocking vehicle fumes as wrapping a scarf around your face. I knew the mask had drawbacks which I was willing to accept in return for not breathing in fumes but as soon as I used it I realized that I am just making my daily cycle commute a lot less comfortable.

Keeping in mind that the mask fails to do it's main task here are the problems I've experienced. First of all, the nose clip it is extremely uncomfortable. It's a hunk of metal pulled by elastic bands against your nose. People say you will get used to it and you probably will the same way that people get used to live with chronic pain. On my first day of use, after 45 minutes of cycling it had left a red mark on my nose and for the rest of the day I had the feeling that my nose was being pressed against by the noseclip which resulted in me rubbing my nose all day.

Secondly, whilst wearing it you cannot move your facial muscles (e.g. open/close your mount). Any movement will drag the top of the mask down displacing it and you will have to adjust it.

Third, there is too much condensation inside the mask, your nose starts running after a bit - it is just a mess - but you can't move your mouth or your mask will slide! It is another great discomfort.

Yet another one - you cannot wear glasses/goggles. Even if you find a pair that will fit around it the mask channels exhaled air towards the eyes and glasses get foggy instantly. Even while cycling fast, your glasses will kept foggy by the exhaled air.

Lastly, as I mentioned at the beginning, it just does not work. I could smell all the fumes. I walked past a guy smoking a cigarette and I immediately caught a whiff of tobacco.

    To summarise:

    Cons:
    - Uncomfortable
    - Does not stay on face/bad design
    - Sweaty face and runny nose - just a mess inside (double whammy discomfort-wise)
    - Cannot use glasses/goggles with it
    - Ultimately does not do a decent job
    Pros:
    - Keeps your face warm?

Bought this for my hayfever against pollen while cycling. Perhaps my nose bridge is too high, but all I can say is that even with adjusting of the metal clip, the edge of the polyester was tight against my nose and nearly caused a blister. Tried it on 2 rides, painful and uncomfortable. Was disappointed as I looked to replace my disposable dust masks from building stores, but those things are at least far more comfortable. Also, when I tested the filters by closing them with my hand, it didn't seem to make a difference. I could be wrong here, but the impression I get is that this is designed for looks, not for pragmatism. Don't spend money on this item, a return will cost you.

3.0 out of 5 stars Overall Good product, Bummer though mine was open and missing an insert

So I am a newly diagnosed asthmatic, and I wanted to get something that I could wear when I go to music festivals or cleaning around the house. I was kind of bummed because my package came opened already and it was supposed to come with an additional insert and it only came with the one. It is well made, but maybe a little big for my face, but I can get it tight enough that it provides a good seal and I have used it when cleaning and it definitely helped keep my asthma in check, I usually have to have my husband do all the dusting and I was able to without an issue with this on which was great. I also like to use this when doing yard work and so far so good. however because its neoprene it does get hot and has a slight smell, I have to wear my hair in a pony and place the straps above it otherwise it slides down. I have yet to test it at a festival yet however I will right an updated review once I do. I plan on wearing this and then covering it with a buff, however I will have to order more inserts as the one I have I think is done as they say they should be replaced every month or so I believe.
