Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 December 2012Very supportive without the weight. Walked 12 hours in these boots last week Friday ; my feet and legs felt as though they could have walked another 12 hours! I decided to try running in these boots and after a mile the boots proved to be as good for running as hiking (you just never know when you will need to leave an area in a hurry!). Next I tried puddles and they passed with flying colours at being waterproof. I wear a size 7.5 UK/41 to 41.5 EUR and these boots fit just right. Normally I would have sized up to a 8 UK/42 EUR due to having wide feet. Breakin of the boots was painless. Maybe a week's time.
I highly recommend these boots.
About Hi-Tec. I sent back a pair of boots (after using them for a year) due to a manufacturing flaw (the mesh uppers separated from the suede leather). Within two weeks a new pair of boots arrived (I expected to wait for 6 months). Hi-Tec sets the standard for all other companies emulate! I'll be life long customer!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 February 2013Bought these after doing plenty of research and trying on a pair in a HiTec outlet.
Purchased online for obvious money saving reasons (HiTec you really should do better than £100 a pair!)and they arrived swiftly.
For me they are not really comfortable out of the box, or at least the left one is not bad but the right one is a pain!
I've worn them round the house for 2 days and only outside for about 4 miles so far and a little rubbing on the left boot was to be expected. For some reason however the right boot is cutting into my achilles tendon like crazy causing all sorts of pain. I've tried different lacing and it seems to help a bit but there is still more pressure (not rubbing) on the tendon than there should be. On inspection there seems to be no difference between boots either ...
Hopefully this problem will ease up as the leather stretches/softens etc.. if I can stand it.
Not been 'off road' in them yet, but I have to say that the soles are very slippery on wet drain covers, again this is hopefully something which will improve with wear.
My original HiTec boots lasted for 10+ years, so I know they can build boots to last, hopefully these will prove to be the same.
So for now it's a 3 star review. I do plan on updating this once I have more miles on them.
EDIT: 1 Month on.
Well they have not got any better after a month of wearing them every other day for short walks of up to 2 miles.
The right boot still insists on crippling me despite trying different sock and lacing combinations. The left boot too rubs worse now, to the point of getting a bleeding heel after less than a mile.
Really disappointed given the reviews and the cost. I have since done further research and found a number of people who are suffering from the same 'achilles' problem so it's not an isolated case.
It's got so bad that yesterday I went and bought a new pair of boots (Not HiTec), which so far are giving no pain at all, anywhere.
I will keep the HiTecs and try and wear them some more (with zinc tape and Compeed protection)in the hope that one day they might just 'give' and become comfortable. I will keep this updated, but for now it's down to 1 star for a pair of almost unwearable boots :-(
EDIT: 2 Months on.
Back here again with more news. Didn't wear the boots for a couple of weeks at all. Then one day decided the memories of the pain had subsided enough to try again.
A short walk of only a mile or so with nothing other than my normal walking socks and there was no problem at all with either boot ???
I have since repeated this walk a number of times and the odd longer one and no problems have resurfaced yet.
Maybe, just maybe they will be alright after all and a long breaking in period is required despite the comfort out of the box claims. Although that still does not explain to me how stopping wearing them one day after lots of pain, only to have none a few weeks later makes any sense at all ...
So 3 stars again. They are currently quite comfortable and light, we shall see what the future holds.
EDIT: Well a few more miles under these boots now including a 6 mile walk last week and just returned from 11 miles today. These boots performed great, with no pinching or pain anywhere.
After todays 11 I did have a few blisters, but historically I usually do end up with some, I appear to be prone to them whatever the boot. Will have to try some different socks maybe.
So potentially the last edit and up to 4 stars. An initially disappointing purchase has proved to be great given time. I just wish they had been pain free from the off.
EDIT: Don't expect anyone reads this, but hey, nobody can accuse me of not being comprehensive.
More miles (3 more 11 mile walks plus the odd shorter one) and still no problems apart from the occasional blister (thank heavens for Compeed).
I must have decided these boots are great as last weekend I bought another pair from a local(ish) closing down HiTec outlet. £39, a bargain methinks. Have worn that pair a few times now and none of the problems of the previous pair have arisen as yet so maybe it was my feet that had to be broken in rather than the boots ;-)
Anyway thats probably all you'll hear from me about these boots unless anything particularly bad happens....
EDIT: Well 4.5 months on and just back from holidays where I wore these for a lot of the time including 50 miles of walking over various terrain. The longest single excursion was 16 miles on mostly surfaced road/tracks. Over the 2 weeks I did not get a single blister (a first for me) and the boots are showing no signs of failing as yet. Extremely comfortable now.
EDIT: Well here we are again, Dec 2014 (Merry Christmas) and I still have these boots.
They have taken me round the Isle of Wight coastal path this year (74 miles) as well as many other treks and they are in one piece.
The soles have worn down quite a lot, but many miles have been on surfaced paths, they are still quite slippery on wet rock or drain covers.
There are no leaks or splits or damage externally even though I really do not take care of them more than a rinse/wipe off if really muddy.
The only real problem is the lining in the heels has worn through in both sets of boots I own. The lining wears, the thin foam rolls up and you get lumps behind your heel that rub. I've smoothed them out, stuck duck tape over them and they are still going strong, but I'm not sure how much longer they will last before regular re-taping becomes a chore ....
For the price I paid I'm pretty pleased though. They have taken me to allsorts of places and not let me down. Shame they could not have lasted a little longer though :-(
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 November 2010Bought these as the higher spec version of the altitude IV Boots I have worn for 2 years solid walking. The reason I liked the altitude IV was the immediate comfort and never had a blister. Unfortunately however, these have now lost there waterproofing due to the normal crease above the toe's created by walking. Naturally, I thought the fit of the new version of same boot range of the same brand would be the same if not better...WRONG. I walked just 14 miles and these are just as bad as my original Timerland boots that I had to give away for the same reason. The leather is now so tough, that the crease that extends to the little toe actually crushes the toe where the old Atitude IV would just allow enought 'give' to be comfortable, but hard-wearing. I will continue to try and wear these in, but I know from experience that this is unlikely to help.
On the plus side, I strode through many a muddy puddle without any leakage.
In short, beware if you have suffered a battered little toe from tough leather uppers before, these will be no different dispite the claims of immediate comfort.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 November 2013These are my second pair these boots. The first pair were bought almost three years ago but the sole is almost worn through (however, the uppers are still servicable and still waterproof - without any additional "treatment" - over three years).
I walk my dog four times a day, every day, mostly on footpaths and occasionaly in fields so I need a comfortable, hard wearing, waterproof boot.
These boots are so light, comfortable and waterproof that I wouldn't think of wearing anything else!!
The previous pair were bought in a specialist "Outdoor" shop - "Surf Mountain" which has an excellent range of boots and where excellent advice is offered. However, as a regular Amazon customer, I decided to research the item with them.
Not only had they got them in stock - but they were selling them for half the price that I had paid - three years ago!!"
Received the boots very punctually - two days earlier than estimated. As before - I am very pleased with them - and they required only a little "breaking-in" (but comfortable from the first day of wearing).
Normally I would try on new boots/shoes in a local shop - as sizes vary a lot - but having worn the exact same boot before, I was more than confident buying "on-line".
Buy with confidence at Amazon.

Es un producto que no conocía directamente en una tienda real. En caso de haberlo conocido no lo habría comprado. El color es practicamente negro cuando lo anunciaban como chocolate. Son unas botas demasiado rígidas

5.0 out of 5 stars Sehr zufrieden

5.0 out of 5 stars strepitose per l'inverno
Provate in montagna con neve alta durante un trekking di elevata difficoltà, nonostante l'aspetto classico, non lasciano passare l'umidità e sono abbastanza rigide per affrontare terreni rocciosi. La suola Vibram in carbonio poi è una garanzia.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolute Empfehlung
Bequem. Glattes pflegeleichtes Leder. Rutschfest und griffig auf jedem Untergrund. Lebensdauer muss ich noch abwarten. Würde ich wieder kaufen.
