Hotel at a Glance: Hotel Bristol

Since its opening in 1948, Hotel Bristol has grown right along with Steamboat Springs as the town emerged as a skiing destination. Though renovations have brought modern updates to the property, reminders of history remain. Guest rooms feature old-fashioned telephones, and photos dating back to the 1920s are hung on the walls.

  • Kick back: Guest rooms have rain showerheads, LCD TVs, and pillow-top beds with Pendleton wool blankets.
  • Mazzola’s Italian Diner: Try lasagna made with Colorado bison or bruschetta-inspired pizza at this onsite restaurant and bar.
  • Take in the view: The indoor hot tub overlooks the town’s main drag, and the Rockies can be seen in the distance.
  • Get cozy: Grab a book from the library and curl up on a leather sofa by the lobby fireplace, or play board games in the common area.
  • Downtown Steamboat Springs is easily walkable; you’ll find specialty retailers, art galleries, and sports outfitters.
  • Distance from Steamboat mountain resort: 4 miles, about a 10-minute drive

Steamboat Springs, Colorado: Historical Ski Town with Bubbling Hot Springs

Steamboat Springs hugs the western ridge of the Continental Divide in northwest Colorado, 150 miles northwest of Denver. Though it’s still a ranching center, the town is best known as a world-class ski destination. Since the early 1960s, Steamboat’s slopes—covered in 29 feet of fresh powder annually—have welcomed thousands of skiers and snowboarders each winter. Steamboat Ski Resort comprises six peaks that are crisscrossed with more than 165 named trails, the longest of which winds down the mountain for more than 3 miles.

The alpine berg gets its name from the 150-plus hot springs that dot the area; legend has it that the springs sounded, to early settlers, like a steamboat rounding the bend. Visit Strawberry Park Hot Springs to soak in mineral water heated to 104 degrees. Clothing is optional after dark.

Head to Lincoln Avenue in downtown Steamboat to browse boutiques or peruse art galleries. Here you can also enjoy après-ski dining at casual restaurants, pubs, and breweries.

The room size was perfect and a comfy bed. The bathroom and shower were large. The hotel has a lot of character and we had family met us and we enjoyed the fire, hot drinks and card games. The gal at the front desk was so helpful and sweet. The location was ideal. We were able to walk to restaurants and shopping. It was so pretty at night with the street lit trees. Definitely will go back!

What a charming and quaint hotel. Amanda was so helpful and pleasant. The inside hot tub was a definite plus. The bed was comfortable and the room was very clean. We would stay there again.

Loved staying in this hotel, great location and cozy accommodations My husband and I took a 2 week road trip last month and we stopped for one night here in Steamboat. After our night here I wish we would have had more time to stay longer! The hotel is super cute and in a great spot in town, they have free parking on site which is always a plus when you're driving to a location. We stayed in the gold medal suite and it was so cute, it has three big windows facing downtown and the mountains - which it was snowing while we were there so really great view to enjoy. The room was spacious, clean and cozy. The hotel staff (I wish I remembered names - I suck in that department) were all awesome, they we're really helpful at check in, gave us all kinds of recommendations for restaurants, breweries and bars in the area based on what we said we liked. We ended up going to three of the places they recommended and had a great time - the distillery is 2 blocks away and amazing! If you're in the Steamboat area I would 100% recommend staying here, be it to do a drinking weekend or ski, or any of the summer outdoor activities in the area - it's a great spot to stay!

Colorado Cozy, Very convenient location for downtown and short drive to ski area We had a fantastic 4-night stay at The Bristol—clean, well-maintained, and Colorado comfortable. If you are looking for an interesting, welcoming, cozy and convenient place to stay, this hotel is perfect. First off, we can only say “outstanding hospitality” about Alex and Tyler. Upon check-in we were pleasantly greeted by Alex who answered all our questions and requests. When making the reservation, Tyler provided significant information about the local restaurants since we stayed over the New Year’s holiday and during COVID when dine-in at restaurants was restricted to 25% capacity--so reservations was key. We reserved a room with a king bed (smaller than chain hotels) and later discovered there was also a suite which we will request next time. The lobby is set-up for travelers to enjoy a coffee, tea, or a few minutes near the fireplace and view passers-by on the main street out front. During COVID restrictions, the hotel maintains adherence to the guidelines and travelers seemed cognizant of other guests so we never felt uncomfortable. The upstairs also has a public area but again, with COVID, guests maintained social distance from each other. It is clear that this place is well-managed and that Geoff takes pride in ensuring customer satisfaction from the management level. The Hotel Bristol is in a historic location with plenty of amenities nearby—right in the center of many restaurants and shops; only a 2-mile drive to the ski area where there’s free parking and a short walk to the lift; bus to the ski lift area (we did not use but saw the buses along the main street). The hotel is only a few minutes walk/access to local places which we supported: Back Door Grill (yummy burgers); Lyon’s Corner Drug with an old-fashioned soda counter/jerk and great milkshakes; convenient Mazzola’s Italian restaurant with delicious meals; Mahogany Ridge (we ordered the filet mignon—incredibly tasty), Life Essentials Day Spa. There were so many other shops and restaurants nearby plus a grocery store, gas station, post office, and a really nice walking trail alongside a small ski/toboggan mountainside. We will definitely return and stay at Hotel Bristol in the summer and/or fall—this place is amazing and beautiful in the winter for skiing, we can only imagine the summer/fall.

Great central location!! Lovely 1 night stay at The Bristol in the heart of downtown Steamboat. Great central location and easy to walk to shops and restaurants. Not too loud either! Bed was very comfy. Room was a bit small so next time we'd opt for a larger room. But it was fine for 1 night. Staff was very friendly and great to chat with. Clean room too. Would definitely stay here again!!
