Burgers That Look Like Asteroids and Margaret Thatcher, Because Why Not

Designer Thomas Weil and Quentin Weisbuch met while working at a design agency in Paris. Fed up with the endless parade of sandwiches for lunch, the two decided to spice things up. The culinary challenge? Burgers. The rules? None, except they had to be edible. Because lunch break is only so long, Weil and Weisbuch gave themselves 90 minutes to come up with an idea, run to the store, and cook the burger. Using their office kitchen, the men began experimenting. Things quickly spiraled out of control.

Boring lunches are a sad fate for many of us office drones. Whether going out to grab a quick bite or brown-bagging it to save money, the midday meal is too often anything but exciting. But never fear! Fat & Furious Burger is here to make lunchtime a weird, wonderful, and (possibly) tasty experience.

Fat & Furious Burger

, Michel Lafon Publishing, 2014.

What started as a way to have a more inspired meal became a bizarre smörgåsbord of the campiest burgers imaginable. From space to politics and everything in between, the themes are endless. The edible antics didn't stop with the patty---these larger-than-life lunches feature elaborate backdrops and accessories, including a monster lab and burger wigs. Wacky lunches don't always come cheap however---while some of their creations cost around six euros (about seven bucks), they've spent upwards of 50 euros for a single burger. It's all part of the madness.

No matter how outrageous each burger gets, Weil and Weisbuch swear they always eat them afterward. They're passionate about photography and creativity, but they're also hungry.

“Sometimes it’s a great surprise, and sometimes kind of a fail,” the duo said about the burgers' taste.

Weil and Weisbuch have been indulging their foodie hijinks for a while. They originally photographed their burgers with an iPhone and posted them to a blog for kicks, but word spread quickly and they've become something of an Internet sensation. The attention led to a cookbook earlier this year*. *Aside from the hilarious photographs, the book has recipes for many of Fat & Furious' crazy culinary creations. If Weil and Weisbuch have learned anything, it's that playing with your food can really pay off.

“We decided to launch our blog to show our crazy pics to our friends, never expecting it would be such a buzz,” they said.
