Nissan Motor India, the Indian arm of Japanese carmaker Nissan, is considering capacity expansion at its existing facility as it expects to cross its annual capacity of four lakh units by the end of next fiscal.
Setting eyes on achieving close to 10 per cent market share by 2016, the company is hopeful of closing the current year with production of three lakh units.
“We will consider expansion within the current facility inside Tamil Nadu. We are looking at feasibility of options at the existing plant or a new manufacturing facility,” Nissan Motor India Managing Director Takayuki Ishida said.
Mr. Ishida, who was here on Wednesday in connection with the inauguration of a new showroom, said given the ambitious plans contemplated by the carmaker, it would not be long before it hits capacity hurdle. The company had lined up a series of models this year including small car, sports utility vehicle and sedans in the sub-four metre range. “The market for compact utility vehicles is growing and we want to quickly enter into the segment,” he said.
