Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch is in talks to join the cast of August: Osage County, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The film will be an adaptation of the Pulitzer and Tony winning play which is set to star Meryl Streep and Julia Robert. George Clooney is one of the film’s producers which will be directed by John Wells.
It tells the story of a dysfunctional family whose lives have gone in different directions but who are reunited by a crisis when they come back to their home and the woman (Streep) who raised them.
Cumberbatch is in talks to play the son of one of Streep’s sisters. The movie is slated to begin filming in late September in Oklahoma.
Cumberbatch has just finished filming Twelve Years a Slave with Brad Pitt and Michael Fassbender and is also set to feature in The Hobbit movies.
He also stars in a new drama series, Parade’s End, which starts tonight on BBC 1 at 9pm.
