Nokia is reportedly exploring a proximity sensor accessory that will help locate lost items with the help of your Lumia smartphone.
Using Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC, the"Treasure Tag" accessory straps onto a keychain or other frequently lost item, and then technology does the rest, The Verge reported. With the accompanying Windows Phone app, users can follow their lost item on a map, using Nokia's LiveSight augmented reality view, the blog said.
The sensor also works in reverse: If you find the Treasure Tag first, hold down a button to trigger a notification sound on your phone, if it's within range.
A Nokia spokeswoman declined to comment on the rumor.
News of the Treasure Tag broke Saturday on the Yahoo Finance Nokia Corporation message board. "I have wanted this for a long time," user ineedastock wrote. "Everyone will want several."
According to The Verge, the "always on" Treasure Tag will run on a battery meant to last about six months. The device is one of the first accessories paired with the enhanced Bluetooth 4.0 low-energy feature in the upcoming Nokia Amber update.
The Treasure Tag might remind you of the Tile, a tracking device that works with the iPhone. It's available to pre-order now for $18.95; check out the video below.
