The first Twitter hotel

With online hotel bookings becoming increasingly popular,it was only a matter of time before we got the first 'Twitter-experience hotel'

It’s an idea whose time has come. With online hotel bookings becoming increasingly popular,it was only a matter of time before we got the first “Twitter-experience hotel”,which,as the name implies, provides services, amenities and entertainment that guests can access via their mobile devices throughout their stay. The @SolWaveHouse in Spain’s famous vacation resort island of Majorca is now the world’s first official “Twitter hotel”.

Guests can register with their Twitter accounts and access the hotel’s Wi-Fi network via their mobile devices. All the rooms are designed in a blue-and-white decor to match the social network’s iconic colour scheme and all services, from check-in to event information, room service and exclusive deals, are Twitter-based,using dedicated hashtags. There are Twitter concierges that greet guests via Twitter and the hotel offers Twitter-themed parties and drinks.

Minibar fridges can also be restocked by tweeting a #FillMyFridge request to the Twitter concierge.

When guests first check in,they are given access to an exclusive Twitter app available only on the hotel’s Wi-Fi. Guests can then tweet each other, share photos and send private messages. Every Friday, there is a #TwitterPoolParty where resident guests receive discounts and freebies. On normal days, food and drinks are ordered at the pool bar by tweeting the @SolWaveHouse Twitter handle. Guests who check into one of the four suites are greeted with champagne, blue balloons and liquorice in the shape of the hash symbol. For obvious reasons, the hotel targets a young audience and the services are geared around the beach, music and mobile telephony. The hotel is hoping that the guest experience will create an expanding virtual community,#SocialWave, which is accessible only through the hotel’s Wi-Fi.

This is one vacation for which you better not forget your mobile phone at home.
