Delhi will see its first celebration of International Jazz Day at Blue Frog.

What do Herbie Hancock,Zakir Hussain,Chaka Khan and Shankar Mahadevan all have in common? Apart from being world-class musicians in their own right, these artistes were just a fraction of the formidable ensemble that celebrated the first International Jazz Day on April 30,2012. It was in November 2011 that the United Nations Educational,Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) declared April 30 to be celebrated as International Jazz Day in order to highlight the contribution of jazz in uniting cultures from different parts of the world. The 2012 edition saw a grand celebration in three cities: Paris,New York and New Orleans, the birthplace of jazz. International Jazz Day 2013 will be celebrated around the world, with UNESCO and the Thelonius Monk Institute of Jazz partnering with music spaces in UNESCO member nations. Blue Frog is the first registered venue from India to be part of this year’s celebration. The performance space will host a free entry concert on Tuesday,April 30,featuring Delhi-based jazz acts such as Syncopation,Grey Area and The Variety Hour, among others, which will take place between 7 pm to midnight. At Istanbul, which is the host city for 2013,there will be a multitude of jazz events including a star-studded evening performance which will be broadcast on television screens around the world.
