With a toddler, two-year-old Willow Sage, an on-again marriage to Carey Hart, a major beauty contract with CoverGirl, and massive Top 40 success, is it possible Pink has left the whole bad-girl routine behind? No. No, it is not. And thank God. Listen in to Logan Hill's interview with our June cover star.
Glamour: And now you're a "f--kin' rock star."
Pink: I believe there's 31 flavors to be tasted.… I'm just living my life. I don't want to be your kind of good.
Glamour: Speaking of good, you've got lots of sex songs on this last album. There's "Slut Like You" and "Walk of Shame."
Pink: Oh, yeah. I'm a reformed slut.
Glamour: Slut is a big word in the Pink glossary.
Pink: It's my very unsophisticated way of taking the power back. I've always had an issue with [the idea that]: "OK, we've both decided to do this. Why am I a slut and you're the player? You didn't get anything from me that I didn't get from you."
Glamour: Let's talk about your early days, when you were on the road with *NSYNC and 98 Degrees. How wild did that get?
Pink: It was Beatlemania for those boys. I got in trouble for toilet-papering 98 Degrees' bus.
Glamour: Did you get along with Justin and the guys?
Pink: Joey Fatone was in love with me. He took me to Friendly's on a date, and he bought me an ice cream. Such a sweetheart. He asked my dad's permission.
Glamour: That's so nice! Going back further, you've said you started singing to distract your parents from fighting.
Pink: Shifting the focus, yeah.
Glamour: What songs would you sing?
Pink: I sang "Wind Beneath My Wings," and "Hero" by Mariah. And "Oh Father" by Madonna. That was my first win at a talent show. A lot of Annie too.
Glamour: A little "Hard Knock Life"?
Pink: Absolutely. [Singing] "The sun'll come out tomorrow.…"
Glamour: Tell me about the name Willow Sage.
Pink: I love the idea that a willow tree cannot be snapped or broken. And we burn sage all the time. It clears bad energy.
Glamour: I hear you've got some mama-bear claws that work for things like bad energy.
Pink: Somebody asked Carey how I've changed since I had Willow, and he said my claws have sharpened. They got longer too.
Glamour: After all the breakups and separations, is it hard to accept that things are good with Carey?
Pink: Accept that it's good? Are things ever good? I don't believe that exists. Long-term relationships are an everyday choice. It's harder to be in a marriage than it is to bounce from one relationship to the next. We're good because we communicate and we've grown up together, not because we don't fight.
Glamour: What's the last thing you fought about?
Pink: [She yells to the next room.] Carey! What was the last thing we fought about? Oh, I know! You not getting me flowers and being a douchebag. That was it.
Glamour: Flowers? Really? A badass like you wanted flowers?
Pink: He needed to get me flowers after I had a big show. Hear that, Carey? I'm throwing you to 17 million wolves [Glamour readers] right now, buddy.
Glamour: OK, Mama Bear. Every new parent has bad days. What was your worst so far?
Pink: When I was at iHeartRadio [music festival] in Vegas. Carey was at a truck race or something. Willow and I were at the pool, and I was taking her to nap time. She was walking just a foot in front of me. And she trips and falls and gets a concussion. She passed out. Cut to an ambulance and fire truck. And a CAT scan. She was about a year old. That was the worst day of my life. And what do they say? "Kids fall." Welcome to parenthood. I thought, I can't handle this. I'm fitting her for a bubble.
Glamour: It's surprising to hear you talking about fear, because your persona is so fearless.
Pink: Every time she bounces on the bed, I see stitches. Being a parent is a Jedi mind f--k. It's also the raddest thing ever.
Glamour: You know, you cuss a lot. How do you deal around her? Are you worried?
Pink: Willow said, "F--kin' hi," the other day. I'm like, "F--k!"
Glamour: So the goal here is not to cuss, right?
Pink: Yes. We're gonna get a jar. Have to.
