US legal drama Damages drew to a close this week after five years. The series, which charted the rivalry between ruthless lawyer Patty Hewes (Glenn Close) and her protegé / nemesis Ellen Parsons (Rose Byrne), wrapped up with a shocking climax that is just going to make us miss the show all the more!

To mark the show's passing, this week's Friday Fiver names five of the greatest ever TV rivalries. We were spoilt for choice - there's the Doctor and his arch-enemy the Master from Doctor Who, Bill and Eric on True Blood, even Saved by the Bell's Zack and Slater...

You can find out who made the final list by checking out our choices below - and be sure to let us know who which TV rivalries you've enjoyed too.

Jack Bauer vs. Nina Myers on 24
The gravel-voiced CTU agent had it in for his former partner - and lover - Nina ever since she turned traitor and killed his wife back in the season one finale. Nina (Sarah Clarke) somehow managed to avoid Jack's vengeance until the third season, when Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) mercilessly shot her to death. She may have had some important info to share about a terrorist plot when she died - but by this point, Jack didn't care.

J.R. Ewing vs. Cliff Barnes on Dallas
Slick oil man J.R. (Larry Hagman) was always more than happy to toy with his bumbling nemesis, sad sack Cliff Barnes (Ken Kercheval), though Barnes did eventually get one over on his foe when he took over Ewing Oil. UK viewers will get to see how this particular rivalry has developed when Cliff returns to the new Dallas this Wednesday night (September 19) - have the pair overcome old differences, or is Cliff still as bitter as ever?

Jack Shephard vs. John Locke on Lost
Two men with conflicting beliefs here - science vs. faith, logic and reason vs. pure belief, pushing the button vs. not pushing the damn thing. Despite the frequent clashes between Jack and Locke, it was actually the latter's other nemesis - sneaky Ben Linus (Michael Emerson) - who finished him off. Jack had to wait till he got to heaven (or whatever the heck happened in that final episode) to reconcile with his old debating partner.

Sherlock Holmes vs. Jim Moriarty
Possibly the greatest rivalry ever in fiction was given a modern twist by Benedict Cumberbatch and Andrew Scott in the BBC's hit series Sherlock. This particular feud appeared to come to a close when Moriarty blew his own brains out as part of 'The Reichenbach Fall' - can any future enemy possibly hope to match Scott's deranged evil genius?

Patrick Jane vs. Red John
Speaking of Sherlock Holmes, one man who's following in his footsteps is The Mentalist lead Patrick Jane (Simon Baker), who has an ongoing rivalry with unseen, serial killer mastermind Red John. Jane even thought he'd finally caught up with his mortal enemy in the show's third season finale, but the man he shot (Bradley Whitford) was ultimately revealed as an impostor. That said, we hear that season five will see the CBI team come within "inches" of their quarry...
