Netflix confirmed to Mashable that it is testing a new Profiles feature on limited Apple TV users and expects to launch the feature on other devices in August or September.
"Profiles' presence on Apple TV is part of the Profiles test, which has been ongoing for some time," Joris Evers, Netflix's director of global corporate communications, told Mashable.
The Profiles feature allows customers to share a single Netflix account. This means each user (for example, individual family members) can create a profile to track separate viewing histories and receive personalized recommendations.
"Only a small part of our overall membership will see this. We have not started rolling out the feature broadly, but hope to do that later this summer," Evers added.
Since the last day of summer is on Sept. 21, anticipate an arrival on PS3, Wii, Xbox, PC, Mac, mobile, tablet and more by then. Previously, Netflix teased the Profiles feature at the International Consumer Electronics Show in January and again at Electronic Entertainment Expo in June.
Netflix is testing the feature globally on limited accounts that already had Profiles set up under the DVD branch of the service. The impending summer release will be international.
Netflix boasts 38 million subscribers that view one billion hours of content each month.
