Etymology

Cognate with Proto-Slavic *lě̄skà (hazel),[1] seemingly from a Proto-Indo-European *lazdā-. Cognates include Latvian lazda (hazel), lagzda, as well as perhaps Proto-Slavic *loza (vine) and Old Armenian լաստ (last, raft).[2]
