What a nice budget 1080p projector! With daylight coming in from my sliding door and kitchen window, it's bright enough for normal viewing. My kids just tried gaming with Wii, and they love it! My wife and I were watching some youtube video in 1080p, and the colors were so beautiful and the white was so bright, we were all smiling. If it drops to $400 again, buy buy buy! You could have 4k, but you don't need it. Upgrading my screen from 105 in to 125 in screen as soon as it gets here. Update: So I had it over a month now. I added a 125 in screen and a new Amazon 4k Fire stick. Even though the projector down converted to 1080p, the new Fire stick put out better picture. I am sitting 10-12 feet away, and I am still amazed. I put it in eco mode, which output at 65% of the brightness (roughly 2500 lumens), and the fan was really quiet, but the picture is still very bright. I do have curtains to minimize light coming in though. Highly recommended!

I have had this projector for about 3 months now and it works great! I spent a lot of time looking for a projector that balanced affordability and high performance.
Pros: very clear picture (we have it at about 12-14ft), remote works well and there are a ton of setting options to get your optimal picture, works pretty well in light (we have it set up in the basement but when the door is open mid day we can still see the picture clearly despite some washout)
Cons: As with most projectors it can be difficult to contrast white colors and sometimes (sporting events) whites can appear very bright. The speaker is good but we plugged a Sony sound bar in and it works perfectly.
9/10 would highly recommend, this is our first projector and comparing the size, weight, etc to a TV is a no brainer if you have the choice.

Took some work with the settings but now I am very happy.
      - Turn off auto contrast. It causes annoying changes in contrast while viewing. Also causes fan speed to vary annoyingly in ECO mode.
      - ECO mode is very quiet if you observe the suggestion above.
      - light weight and easy to mount
      - Very bright, clear picture
Con: Has an illuminated strip 4 inches wide all around the projected image. Not as bright as the image portion but still annoying.

Provides excellent picture quality for the price point! (I paid $399 on Thanksgiving day sale price) The internal speaker is not the best. I have mine hooked up through a full audio receiver so I have all of my sources going into one unit to provide a single video source. I highly recommend purchasing a digital TV tuner box to go along with the unit that way you can watch any and all over the air stations on the projector. The pictures I have provided do not do it justice on how clear and perfect the picture quality really is.

I checked review after review and the HD27E was almost in every top ten at the under $600 range. But I was not willing to fork out $600. I waited for a year (using CamelCamelCamel) and found it for under $400 and I could not resist. My wife was upset I bought it a month before Xmas and spent all the money. I put it on a tray table and stretched some cords across the floor to get it running on a random wall, and she was upset about the mess. But after 2 hours of watching the Hallmark Channel, she wanted to how soon I could order a ceiling mount and get longer HDMI cables.
You can go out and buy a 60" TV that cost hundreds more than this and the picture is 1/3 the size (my final install is going to be a 100" diagonal). In addition, you can pick this up and put it on a coffee table on the back deck and stretch a sheet on the side of the house and have a "drive in" style movie. Lastly, the speaker is very good. It rivals the speakers on my 50" TV and I can not hear the fan unless I have my ear next to the projector.
You have nothing to loose if you can find it for under $400 (just set it up on your wife's favorite channel for the first couple of hours and she will be glad you are such a savvy shopper).

Update 2 years later: Was watching Mulan on Disney+ and my wife remarked that the colors were not what she thought they should be. I picked up the remote and checked and the projector was in economy mode, which is how I watch tv. But for special events, bright mode is called for. We have been super happy with our purchase and would do it again in a heart beat. With the Covid19 changing the way we live, we plan on buying tickets to the streaming service for Trans Siberian Orchestra on December 18th and watching the concert from home on our 100 projector screen. You will not get the same experience with a 50 inch TV.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ideal para cine en casa
Reviewed in Mexico on November 19, 2019

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Value when on sale
Reviewed in Canada on June 24, 2020
I got this on a Amazon warehouse deal. The picture is excellent with no rainbow effect that was bothersome to me. The Optoma HD 146X had a little rainbow effect that gave me eye strain. The picture quality would be 5 stars but it does tend to struggle with blacks...so any dim lit scene wont be that great. At this price point you can definitely look over this negative!

Its whisper Quite in eco mode and has very little bulb whine. You can actually get rid of the bulb noise by changing the HZ setting to 24HZ in your computer graphics card or Apple tv. There’s also a 4 1/2 inch glow around the screen that’s a bit distracting. Eventually I’ll have to put a black border around my screen to minimize this distraction. I tried to get in touch with Optoma about this and they never replied. Other projectors don’t have this problem and if they do it’s no more than an inch or two.

Reviewed in Canada on October 28, 2018
After having two previous projectors over the last 10 years this is such an improvement - super bang for the buck. The brightness and definition are superb. We operate in a room that is about 14 x 14 and use it to produce a picture of 108 inches diagonal. In our view there is no substitute for screen size to simulate being in a real theatre and this one really delivers.

Un peu de scintillement d'image en bas a droite de l'image en mode ECO. En mode normal c'est parfait. Un peu dur d'ajuster les contrastes. Peu bruillant en general et satisfaisant comme projecteur

Really bright, it feels like you're watching actual hd 4k tv. Definitely recommended! If you are looking into buying a projector pay attention to contrast ratio. This optoma model is 25000:1, pretty amazing
